IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT OLYMPIA MARATHON The Olympia Marathon is a sports and cultural event inextricably linked to high ideals, such as those of the Olympic ideal and noble competition, respect for diversity, competitiveness, participation, in the place that gave birth to the Olympic games, connecting Culture with Sports, the history and the modern course of our country. Unfortunately, our goal to connect Ancient Elis, the host city of the Olympic Games – with Olympia, the sanctuary of Zeus, site of the Olympic Games cannot be continued. The adverse conditions created for the safety of the athletes by the permanent demarcation of the Pyrgos-Patras National Road with bollards, as well as the demarcation made by the organization on the rest of the Pyrgos-Olympia National Road, do not allow securing the permission to hold the race for the Marathon and Half Marathon and make it difficult to run them. In this context and what we have from time to time discussed with experts and also with athletes about the route in question, we should proceed with a reorganization and reconstruction of the Marathon and Half Marathon. OLYMPIA HALF MARATHON 2024 CHANGES COURSE So for this year, the Olympia Marathon is postponed and as it seems, the difficulties presented make it mandatory to carry out the Half Marathon in a new design. The Olympia Half Marathon changes its route by running on the old National Road of Ancient Olympia – Pyrgos, through Platanos, connecting various villages of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia. Specifically, starting from the Town Hall of Ancient Olympia, through the provincial road, we pass through the beautiful villages of the Municipality, Koskina, Magira, Platano, Pelopio and Smila, we return via the same route, ending at the Town Hall of Ancient Olympia.   We continue the effort to ensure that our region does not lack sports-cultural events, which can only be evaluated positively for their offer.
